Enhancing the First Line of Defense | Home & Cyber Security

With the craziness of life, it can be easy to accidentally let things slip your mind. It’s not until something disrupts our plans that we take a step back and evaluate our routines.

In our latest issue, Laura Kostad interviewed two community experts on security of both tangibles and intangibles; Aaron Clem of the KPD and Christopher Grow, owner of TCT Computer Solutions. Here are a few tips that they each shared to enhance our home and cybersecurity!

Home Security tips with Aaron Clem of the KDP:

  • Check that all doors are locked and dead bolted at night and before leaving the house.

  • If you have to park on the street, park under the nearest streetlight.

  • Don’t leave garage door openers in cars parked outside the garage.

  • Dogs - outside or inside - are a strong deterrent.

  • Surveillance cameras can’t stop a crime, only help solve it.

Cyber Security tips with Christopher Grow of TCT Computer Solutions:

  • Install updates on your computer as soon as they become available.

  • Regularly back up your essential data and important files.

  • Do not save login credentials through your web browser.

  • Do not keep a cheat sheet by your computer or in a document on your computer.

  • Provide as little information about yourself on your social media pages as possible.
